James Grotta, M.D., is the former Director of Stroke Research and the Director of the Mobile Stroke Unit Consortium of the Texas Medical Center. He has played a leadership role in many clinical research studies after stroke. He is presently funded by NIH to study the amplification of the existing benefits of intravenous rtPA.  Check out Dr. Grotta's work with mobile stroke treatment, and his high-tech Stroke Ambulance.




Pooja Khatri, M.D., M.P.H., is the Director of the Acute Stroke Program and a Professor of Neurology at the University of Cincinnati. She is national program director for the NIH-sponsored Stroke Trials Network, centered at the University of Cincinnati and Principal Investigator for the PRISMS study in minor stroke.  Dr. Khatri's advocacy for stroke treatment at the International Stroke Conference is a must-see.




Phil Gorelick, M.D., M.P.H., is Chairman of the Department of Neurology and Director of Stroke Research at the University of Illinois – Chicago. He has served in leadership roles for numerous treatment trials in stroke and has received the National Stroke Association’s Visionary in Stroke award.  When it comes to clinical neuroscience research, Dr. Gorelick is always at the heart of it.



KShahlaie pictureKia Shahlaie, M.D., Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at the University of California - Davis and is Co-Director of the Neurocritical Care Program.  He is a specialist in the treatment of traumatic brain injury and manages the UCD TBI database.   He is involved in numerous clinical studies into neurological emergencies.  Balancing new and old technologies to advance medical treatment is one of his particular interests.
